Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional international trade. It is trading which aims at sustainable development for excluded and disadvantaged producers. It seeks to do this by providing better trading conditions, by raising awareness and by campaigning.

The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP)

The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) - An alliance of major tea packing companies work together to promote social responsibility in the world tea trade and ensure the ethical sourcing of tea. ETP defines ethical trade as a shared responsibility to ensure that the social and ethical conditions involved in growing the tea that its members buy meets, at a minimum, local laws, trade union agreements and some international standards and to encourage improvements where needed. It does this through independent monitoring of six key areas of tea estate life: employment (including minimum age and wage levels), education, maternity, health and safety, housing and some areas of basic rights.
